Washington Trust Helps Fight Hunger in Southern New England

Tradition of Holiday Season Giving Continues
Westerly, RI – December 1, 2019 - Each year during the holiday season, The Washington Trust Charitable Foundation presents $500 checks to food pantries located across the Southern New England communities in which the bank serves. This year, 19 checks were distributed, totaling $9,500 in donations.
According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), 12.4 percent of Rhode Islanders (54,200 households) are food insecure, meaning they are often unsure where their next meal will come from due to a lack of resources. The Foundation’s contributions will help to fill that need again this winter.
