Sandra Parrillo Elected to the Board of Washington Trust Bancorp, Inc. and its Subsidiary, The Washington Trust Company

Westerly, RI – May 10, 2020 - The Washington Trust Company is pleased to announce that Sandra Glaser Parrillo, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Providence Mutual Fire Insurance Company (“Providence Mutual”), has been elected to the Board of Washington Trust Bancorp, Inc. (NASDAQ: WASH) and its subsidiary, The Washington Trust Company for a term ending in 2023. She will also serve on the Audit Committees of both companies. Parrillo joined Providence Mutual, a property-casualty mutual insurance company with operations in New England, New Jersey and New York, in 1977, and assumed her current position in 2000.
“Sandra has extensive experience in leading a successful financial services company, as well as governing boards of numerous nonprofit and for-profit corporations,” said Washington Trust Chairman and CEO Edward O. Handy III. “Those qualifications, along with her expertise in strategic thinking, critical analysis and regulatory matters make her a strong addition to our Board.”
Parrillo is active in numerous professional and community organizations, serving as a director and past Chair of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) , as well as a director of the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council (RIPEC). She currently serves as a director of the Champlin Foundation and the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, of which she is also Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees. An active member of the American Society of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters (CPCU), Parrillo served as a director of the Rhode Island Chapter, and is currently a member of the Executive Committee for the Board of Trustees of the American Institute for CPCU.
Parrillo has received extensive recognition within her industry and the State of Rhode Island for her achievements. She received an Honorary Doctor of Business Administration degree from Bryant University in 2018. In 2011, the Insurance Library of Boston named her the Insurance Professional of the Year, and in 2010, she received the Women in Insurance Leadership Award from Insurance Networking News magazine. She was named one of the region’s 25 most industrious and influential businesswomen by Providence Business News in 2008.
A Rhode Island resident, Parrillo holds two bachelor’s degrees from Rhode Island College: one in Business Management and the other in Mathematics. She earned a master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Rhode Island and holds the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation.
